Anne Hebebrand creates luminous paintings rich with color and texture revealing delicate transitions and passages. An ongoing exploration of cold wax and oil techniques lead to a tactile surface created not only by adding layers, but also by excavating and unearthing earlier layers of paint.
Hebebrand’s paintings are not just variations on a theme, but more like a conversation with one painting giving dialog to another. Through experimentation and improvisation, her process is supported by both a keen understanding of her materials and a deep knowledge of artists who have preceded her.
Hebebrand earned a BFA from the Combined Degree Program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University in Boston, MA and a MA at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
The artist has participated in exhibitions at the Carverhill Gallery, Camden, Maine, the Maine Jewish Museum of Art, Portland, Maine, the Galeria Militar, Todos Santos, Mexico, the Galeria de Todos Santos, Todos Santos, Mexico, the Frank Brockman Gallery, Brunswick, Maine, the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery, University of CT, Groton, Connecticut, Artworks Gallery, Hartford, Connecticut, the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, Augusta, Georgia; among others.
Hebebrand’s paintings are in private collections in the United States, Germany and Mexico. She is represented by Galeria Militar in Todos Santos, Mexico and the Carverhill Gallery in Camden, Maine and currently lives in Bath, Maine and Todos Santos, Mexico.
